DAVID CUNNINGHAM was born and educated in England. He came to Australia in 1975, having lived and worked in several different parts of the world. He was the Managing Director of Oxford University Press, Australia for ten years, after which he, with his wife Jean, owned and ran Hospitality Press, a publishing company specialising in works for the hospitality and tourism industries.
DAVID and Jean discovered Mount Alexander in 1999, when they came for the Castlemaine State Festival. Realising that it was a very special place, they came to live here in 2001. They now live in Bull Street, and think that there is nowhere else in the world they would rather be. They have two grown-up children: a daughter who lives California, and a son in Kyneton. Jean has a small business developing and managing websites.
DAVID was spokesman for the Better Rail Action Group (BRAG) which, though it fought unsuccessfully to retain the double track to Bendigo, can claim credit for the fact that the Fast Train now stops at Castlemaine. He is President of the Mount Alexander Branch of the National Trust and he is on the Committee of the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ADFAS), Central Victoria. He is Cellarmaster for the Castlemaine Wine and Food Society, and, for fun and exercise, plays golf and tennis. He belongs to no political party.
